Vessels of a different sort ...

A very recent endeavor along my continuous learning curve. These are small vessels, or vases if you prefer. They are made at the torch and yes, there is some blowing of glass involved. 

Great Wheel

An up close and personal view of Seattle's answer to the London Eye. We call ours the "Great Wheel". Located in the center of the Seattle waterfront near the end of Pier 57.

Coming Out Party

The morning after any day I work in my glass studio is like Christmas morning to me! These are the fruits of my labor from Sunday evening at the torch.

White Elephant Party

One of the dubious White Elephant gifts unwrapped at a friends 9th annual White Elephant gift exchange party last evening. Too bad Mardi Gras has already passed this year. The recipient thought they were pretty cool, and in the words of the gifter "I'm relieved to finally have those things out of my house!"

Some of you have followed my blog over the past several years. A few of you have complained about my hiatus from photo-blogging. My apologies. But all things change and life evolves, thankfully.

The photo above is of the beads and vessels I made in my glass studio yesterday. I'm excited about the creative progress I've made over the past two short years! Some of these beads will end up in my Etsy store in the next several days (see sidebar) while others can be found on my table in the North Arcade at the Pike Place Market.

And yes, I'm back blogging again, though perhaps not on the daily schedule I maintained for 3 years.

Monthly Theme Day - Green

The "Green Blob" greets you on this first day of July from the top of the Seattle Space Needle. Yes, it is City Daily Photo Blog Monthly Theme Day ... again ... and this month's theme is the "color green".

I made this outlandish photo in 2004. Although I don't remember exactly what the occasion was, I'm guessing it was a sci-fi event of some sort. Needless to say this guy doesn't live up there, even though Seattle is known as "The Emerald City". And yes, that is indeed a full moon rising behind the Space Needle.

Update:
Loyal follower Jackie tells me this was the grand opening of the Science Fiction Museum at Seattle Center in June of 2004. Further investigation tells me that the Sci-Fi Museum closed a few months ago in 2011.

Blog Vacation ...

This is not a recent photo, although I do wish it was. I made this self-portrait in 1996 while camped on Homer Spit beside Kachemak Bay in Alaska. 


When I began this blog some 2-1/2 years ago my agenda was to post a "new photo" every day. The idea was to give myself a self-assignment of producing some new images everyday. I've done so for most of the  1,267 daily posts to date, though I will confess to dipping into my considerable photo file on some occasions. That said, however, my interests have changed over the last several months and I realize that I'm fighting against the obligation (albeit it self-imposed) of "the daily blog post". 


It is time for a change. 


My thanks to my many faithful followers. Thanks for your comments and your appreciation. 


Please check in from time-to-time ... I don't believe I'm making a permanent departure but instead, a shift to a less rigorous schedule.

Summer Weather

Well ... it was summer weather on Wednesday. Of course that was appropriate given that it was the first day of summer. Thursday, however, we slipped back into our old familiar Seattle drizzle ... just like putting on a pair of beloved slippers.

This scooterist on his two-tone Honda Metropolitan took advantage of the sunshine, though, by visiting Volunteer Park and the Conservatory under the very watchful gaze of William Henry Seward.

In honor of the summer solstice I thought I'd show the passage of time. This hourglass is a prop I rented several years ago. and it is on the steps of the Washington State Capitol Building in Olympia, Washington ... about an hour south of Seattle

The Homecoming Statue - Kirkland, Washington

Family reunion statue commemorates a sailor's homecoming, at Moss Bay, Kirkland, Washington with the waters of Lake Washington in the background. 

This statue is a replica of "The Homecoming" statue and was dedicated in Kirkland, WA (just across Lake Washington from Seattle) on July 4, 2001.
